During an early morning game drive in the Namiri Plains area of Tanzania's Serengeti, we came across this lioness perched on a downed tree. She gave us the eye but wasn't bothered by us as we excitedly captured images of her.
About Phil Marty
I picked up a film camera when I was in my early teens and have put it down only once - In 2003 when I replaced it with a digital camera. Nature photography has been my passion from the beginning, but my portfolio has expanded over the years to include travel, street photography and blues music. As a travel journalist, now retired from the Chicago Tribune but still trekking on a freelance basis, I have photographed in more than 60 countries on all seven continents. I admit to a love affair with the American West and Southwest and now live in the red-rock country of southwest Utah.
