Artist's Description

As we prepared to head out early one morning in search of cheetahs, we were treated to this scene of acacia trees silihouetted against the pre-dawn sky. Our camp was in the Namiri Plains area of the Serengeti, the magical area of Tanzania that is home to Africa's Big Five - lion, elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros.

I picked up a film camera when I was in my early teens and have put it down only once - In 2003 when I replaced it with a digital camera. Nature photography has been my passion from the beginning, but my portfolio has expanded over the years to include travel, street photography and blues music. As a travel journalist, now retired from the Chicago Tribune but still trekking on a freelance basis, I have photographed in more than 60 countries on all seven continents. I admit to a love affair with the American West and Southwest and now live in the red-rock country of southwest Utah.
