Farmland near the town of Furnas on Sao Miguel Island is carved up into lovely pieces of earthtones. The island is part of the Azores, an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean between the U.S. and Europe that's an autonomous region of Portugal.
About Phil Marty
I picked up a film camera when I was in my early teens and have put it down only once - In 2003 when I replaced it with a digital camera. Nature photography has been my passion from the beginning, but my portfolio has expanded over the years to include travel, street photography and blues music. As a travel journalist, now retired from the Chicago Tribune but still trekking on a freelance basis, I have photographed in more than 60 countries on all seven continents. I admit to a love affair with the American West and Southwest and now live in the red-rock country of southwest Utah.
