The Northern Lights, or aurora borealis, looked like smoke rising from this cabin at Blachford Lake Lodge in Canada's Northwest Territories, about an hour's flight from Yellowknife. Green was the predominant color, but there were also streaks of red emanating from the green.. I used a fisheye lens for a wider perspective.
I picked up a film camera when I was in my early teens and have put it down only once - In 2003 when I replaced it with a digital camera. Nature photography has been my passion from the beginning, but my portfolio has expanded over the years to include travel, street photography and blues music. As a travel journalist, now retired from the Chicago Tribune but still trekking on a freelance basis, I have photographed in more than 60 countries on all seven continents. I admit to a love affair with the American West and Southwest and now live in the red-rock country of southwest Utah.
